So the pricing has been announced for the subscriptions and so far, I have not seen a pro-subscription related comment on the Playstation Blog.
The pricing is:
- 1 Month – €12.99
- 3 Month – €34.99
- 6 Month – €64.99
- 12 Month – €124.99 (Available on PC only)
- Lifetime Subscription – €179.99 (Available on PC only)
I love the Beta, a few bugs (to be expected, hence it’s Beta) but console gamers are more prone to pick up and play when they can; this renders a subscription fee rather pointless as most console gamers won’t pay this considering the wealth of free online games that are available – Burnout Paradise and Modern Warfare 2 being prime examples of online games that never seem to have quiet time on the servers.
As most Beta testers on the PS3 are Playstation+ subscribers, many are unhappy that there is no discount etc for them. And I must admit, I’m peeved at this too as Google was rife for months that the game would have no subscription and would make money via microtransactions in the market and it would also be cross platform, meaning we could finally kick some PC gamers’ asses.
But neither of those have happened, which leaves a rather sour after taste.
Many Beta testers have uninstalled the game now that the pricing has been announced – I haven’t, but I haven’t played it since.
As far as the game on the PS3 seems to be concerned, this game is now geared up to flop but I doubt that anything will change as plenty PC gamers are more than happy to pay subscriptions – look at WoW users.
I was all set to preorder the game to get the Batman PvP character and the price on Play.com was awesome but as there was no mention of a subscription anywhere until recently, I felt the price was too good to be true.
Such a shame, considering I could see myself spending hours upon hours within the DC Universe.
